A MESSAGE FROM Sebastian's Campaign to Fight to End Homelessness
Between 2017 and 2023, the state had over 10,000 people who experienced "literal homelessness" meaning they had no shelter at all with 200,000 people in Illinois were in unstable housing situations. People experiencing homelessness face an accelerated 20 year shorter life span than other people and are at risk of more visits to the hospital, overdoes, traumatic injury, exposure to extreme heat and brutal cold, and more. I have seen the legislative impact the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness has had in the halls of the State Capitol in passing policies that demand politicians understand what it truly means to make housing a human right for all. As a child of immigrants I experienced housing instability constantly, and this is one of the reasons I got involved in legislative affairs. On February 8th, I’ll be walking in the Winter Walk Chicago to raise awareness and funds for our unhoused neighbors. This powerful event brings housed and unhoused people together in solidarity, reminding us that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a place to call home. Your donation will support vital services, advocacy efforts, and education programs working to end homelessness in Chicago. Every dollar makes a difference, and can save a life. If you're thinking of buying a coffee this week, consider dropping that amount into this cause instead. Appreciate you all.
